Is it worth learning Java?

Hey guys, I'm learning Java and I've heard that very few desktop applications are written in Java. Why what is it? I am continuing to learn Java syntax is used for many other iPhone SDK SDK, such as Android, etc. Is it really worth learning? Or should I go directly to Web development in Java, where it is used more?
